Book
The Handbook of logistics and distribution management
In the preface to the first edition of this book, I wrote that a prime objective for writing the book was to provide an up-to-date text at a reasonable cost. We also felt that there was a significant gap in the literature for a book that offered a broad framework as well as a clear and straightforward description of the basic functions and elements related to logistics and distribution. The feedback that we received indicated that we had met these goals, and that the book was the core text for its subject area. Indeed, as we enter the new millennium, the original book is still selling – although the rate of change in business and logistics is such there is much in the original edition that is now outdated. Hence this new and heavily revised edition has similar objectives to the first –those of simplicity of style and relevance of context. The scope of logistics has grown rapidly in the past few years and this is reflected in the content of the book. We have included key aspects of supply chain philosophy and practice, but have tried to retain the focus on distribution and logistics that was a feature of the first edition of the book.
