Lacklustre Consumer Spending Dampening Sales Outlook
Sluggish private consumption and Indonesia's flat economic growth performance in H117 ha ve led us to revise down our outlook for passenger car sales to growth of 4.9% in 2017, from our previous forecast of 11 .0 % growth. Two positives for a rise in car sales will be manageable inflation and low interest rates, which will help bolster consumer spending . Indonesia's flat economic growth performance in H117, which is being hampered by sluggish private consumption and weak commodity prices, has led us to downgrade our outlook for autos sales in the country in 2017. We now forecast new passenger car sales to grow 4.9% in 2017, totalling 901,815 units, down from our previous forecast of 11.0% growth.
