Rosatom To Build Nuclear Technology Centre
Russia's state-owned State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vietnam for the construction of the Centre for Nuclear Energy Science and Technology (CNEST) in that country. The facility will house Russia-designed nuclear reactors, a multifunctional cyclotron, a research and development laboratory and a technology complex. The centre's primary task will be the research and application of nuclear technology in the interests of society. The nuclear research will serve sectors including material science, industry, agriculture and healthcare. CNEST is also proposing to develop advanced technology to analyse underground water and soil samples. An inter-governmental deal to build the centre was signed between Russia and Vietnam in 2011, and the Russian government agreed to provide a USD500mn loan to finance the facility's construction.
