Industry brief - government t o construct 14 coal t erminals
The Indonesian government plans to construct 14 dedicated coal terminals - seven each on the is lands of Kalimantan and Sumatra, according to a statement by Minis try of Energ y's director of minerals and coal, R. Sukhyar. With the construction of the new terminals , the g overnment is aiming to crack down on illegal coal exports , which amount to nearly 50 -6 0mn metric tonnes annually. The illeg al coal exports deprive the g overnment of revenue from royalties of 3-13.5% imposd on domes tic coal production. The trans port minis try is likely to be tas ked with the execution of the conceptual plan for the construction project, according to the energ y minis try's Coal Director Edi Pras odjo (Platts ).
