Indonesia could gain from the increas ing g lobal container shipping traffic, provided it improves its infras tructure, reports Seatrade Global, citing Maersk Line Indonesia President Director Jakob Frils Sorensen. The country has growth opportunities if aided by more foreign direct investment, he added. There are plans for the construction of a new integrated port and industrial estate in Surabaya and a new container port in Jakarta. The projects are aimed at reducing congestion at the Tanjung Priok port. The company has plans to start a direct s ervice from the Bitung port in North Sulawes i to Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, in order to grow its network and coverage in Indonesia.
