Company brief - Pelindo II challenges ministry directive to Annul JICT contract
State-run port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Pelindo II) has defied a directive of the Indonesian transportation minis try to annul its 20 -yearlong contract extens ion with Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH). According to director general for sea transportation, Bobby Mamahit, Pelindo II failed to comply with government procedures for the renewal of contract for the operation of the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) until 2039 . Mamahit stated that the company was required to seek government approval for renewing the contract. However, according to Pelindo II President Director Richard Lino, the company owns the right to operate the land and does not need to s eek g overnment approval for extending its cooperation with its partners . The original agreement signed between Pelindo II and HPH for the JICT was due to expire by 20 19 ; however, Pelindo II renewed the contract before the expiry. Under the renewed contract, Pelindo II will own a 51% s take in the JICT and HPH will have to pay USD250mn in advance to Pelindo II.
