The Marketing System of the Manila International Container Terminal
Sea-Land Corporation pioneered the ocean shipping of containerized cargo 32 years ago. The company operates
12 exclusive and 11 preferential major terminals to serve 78 ports in 64 countries throughout the world[l]. During
the years of depression in the international shipping business, especially 1985 and 1986, the company tried to diversify and go into the terminal services business. The Sea-Land Hong Kong Terminal is a good example. It used
to be an exclusive terminal, serving only the Sea-Landowned vessels. Now it has successfully turned into a terminal serving both Sea-Land and other joint-user vessels. To the satisfaction of the Board of Directors, the revenue from the joint-user operation now contributes handsomely to the bottom-line earnings from operation. Today the Corporate guideline is to expand terminal services, whenever feasible
