THE ROLE OF SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES IN INTERNATIONAL PORT OPERATIONS: AN ANALYSIS OF MODERATION EFFET
With increasing attention to sustainability in ports operations, international ports need to improve their competitive position within the bounds of environmental regulations whilst accommodating stakeholder expectations. To explore the specific route of sustainability practices in port operations, this study analyzes the role of sustainability practice as a moderator on the relationships between competitiveness and performance in port operations.
Utilizing data collected from 203 organizations engaged in port operations, hierarchical moderated regression analysis revealed the role of sustainability practices in achieving
outstanding port activities, which significantly moderates the relationship between competitiveness, particularly for operational efficiency and service quality, and performance.
Results provide useful insights to establish strategies to develop sustainable port operations and a strategic agenda to assist ports to incorporate sustainability practice.
